Brief Introduction to the Central Region Branch, Agriculture and Food Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Executive Yuan

  • This Branch derives from an organization that is affiliated with the Food Office of the Taiwan Provincial Government. On July 1, 1999, according to the stipulation in Item 2, Article V of the Temporary Ordinance for the Adjustment of the Function, Operation, and Organization of Taiwan Provincial Government, the Taiwan Provincial Government Food Bureau’s four administration offices in Taichung, Nantou, Changhwa, and Yunlin were merged and affiliated with the “Central Region Food Administration Office, Agriculture Committee, Administrative Yuan”. This group is now in charge of food administrative operations such as food production, warehousing and transportation, food price investigation, grain merchant management and the inspection of all varieties of edible rice within the Central Region of Taiwan’s four counties (cities).

  • This Branch was established January 30, 2004, in cooperation with the adjustment of each department, committee, office, and rectified organization after the adjustment work’s first stage was completed of Taiwan Provincial Government’s operation and organization. Its purpose is to establish a balanced and safe food production and marketing system, adjust the agriculture and food industrial structure, promote industrial competency, popularizenational agricultural production brands, create a modernized transportation and marketing environment and stable production and marketing order of agricultural produces. The Branch is expected to take charge of:

    1. executing, coordinating, and supervising measures to stabilize crop production and marketing.
    2. collecting agriculture and food industry information, and carrying out economic analysis and forecasting.
    3. executing, coordinating, and supervising assistance to the agriculture and food industry during natural disasters.
    4. executing, coordinating, and supervising improvement of the agriculture and food production wholesale market, the retailing modernization, and direct sales.
    5. executing and supervising inspection of pesticides, fertilizers, seeds and seedlings, and fertilizer transportation and marketing operations.
    6. purchasing, warehousing, transporting, grinding, and distributing food.
    7. executing and coordinating grain merchant administration and food regulation.
    8. executing and coordinating rice grading and inspection.
    9. other agriculture and food industry related business.
  • The district under jurisdiction covers Taichung City, Changhwa County, Nantou County, and Yunlin County. Due to operation requirements, Taichung and Yunlin Offices are established in the agricultural production and marketing area.
