Green Agriculture Pavilion Kicks off at the Eco-Products International Fair 2014

2014-03-12

Thanks to the efforts of the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Taiwan is hosting for the first time the Eco-Products International Fair which has been touring Asia. The show will take place in Hall A of Taipei World Trade Center from Mar. 13 to 16, 2014. The Council of Agriculture has set up the Green Agriculture Pavilion which is divided into three areas, namely Eco-products, Green Technology, and Green Service in accordance with the main theme of the fair. The pavilion offers a glimpse to the achievements and efforts on Taiwan's agricultural energy conservation, natural disaster response, green production, and green consumption in a lively presentation. The objective is to let foreign and domestic visitors have a comprehensive understanding towards Taiwan’s green agriculture policy. It will also present Taiwan’s agricultural development and vigor, while aiming to create green business opportunities for Taiwan’s agriculture.

The COA further explained that the Eco-products Area shows environmentally friendly crop production models, utilization of low-resource re-born products, and green decorations using energy conservation approach. The exhibits included Taiwan's organic agricultural products, actual examples of biological control, diverse applications of peptide extraction, innovative refined bamboo products, creative green energy-saving display, etc. The Green Technology Area displays non-chemical pest-control systems called specific light wave LED insect trap and vegetable oil mixture formula, controlled-release fertilizer and pest-repellent organic fertilizer applicable to organic farming for the production of safe agro-products, and new livestock pollution prevention technique which employs water-saving and air-pollution prevention technology. These are all remarkable and innovative achievements that the COA has accumulated in recent years by implementing practical applications of energy-saving, water-saving, eco-friendly, and air-pollution preventive techniques on industry production. As for the Green Service Area, it showcases the application of thinned-wood structures on soil and water conservation projects. This method consists of utilizing thinned trees that possess low-economic value as materials for disaster prevention engineering projects. Besides serving the purpose of disaster prevention, the method also protects the environment and reduces carbon emission. On the other hand, “forest eco-escapades” and “recreational farms” offer eco-tours in forest recreational areas as well as provide information on recreational farms that are both certified for high service quality and for being educational. Visitors are encouraged to experience these superb agricultural locations.
