2014-05-22

Amidst the tender lyrics of the event’s theme song, the Council of Agriculture (COA) set in motion the opening press conference of "Meeting My Love: Nation-wide Animal Adoption Event" at Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall on May 24, hoping to help dogs and cats in local animal shelters meet their future host families. In the next 200 days, 19 cities and counties are mobilized to hold 150 adoption events all over the country. Great gifts for pets such as free rabies vaccination, microchip implant, discount on sterilization surgeries, pet supplies, with a combined value of over NT$ 5,000 are offered at the events. The organizer aimed to encourage those who wish to keep pets to take action and come forward to find their ideal pet companion.

At the opening press conference, especially designed “Adoption mobiles” which will be touring the 19 cities and counties were introduced to the public. These vehicles will offer mobility and full-coverage in organizing adoption events all over the country. In addition to the dogs and cats appearing on site, these vehicles also feature a picture wall that showcases photos of those animals that could not be there. What's more, detailed information about dogs and cats kept in all public animal shelters can be found on the animal adoption website (http://animal-adoption.coa.gov.tw/). The COA stated that it wishes to convey these adoption messages to as many potential pet owners as possible via the combination of physical adoption events and virtual internet promotion. In different districts nationwide, 9 educational courses designed for first-time pet owners will be held to assist them to know how to get along with their pets. They can also share their love stories on the website ( http://meetmylove.com.tw ) to join the campaign. By means of a series of promotion activities, the COA hopes to help every animal in shelters find a new home.

Renowned illustrator Ms. Wang, Ziyi was invited to attend the opening press conference on May 24. Ms. Wang took photos with participants of the event and encouraged the notion of “Don’t Abandon but Adopt”. Training expert Mr. Lu, Zhi-sen from Excellent Companion Dog Center was also at the event to offer advises and answer questions about pet-keeping. Happy Dancing Group’s performance conveyed the eagerness of the animals to be adopted. The COA hopes to attract all the attention from the general public with the “Adoption mobiles”, while raising public awareness about the stray animals and supporting adoption instead of abandoning them.
