Taiwan, the Netherlands, and Denmark jointly held the International Forum on “Innovative Cross-Sectoral Linkage for Circular Agriculture,” inviting businessmen, government officials, and academics from the fields of farming, forestry, fisheries, and animal husbandry to attend

2019-10-21

Responding to the “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs) formally launched by the United Nations in 2016, from October 31 to November 1 of 2019, the Council of Agriculture (COA), the Netherlands Trade and Investment Office in Taiwan and the Trade Council of Denmark, Taipei held an international forum on the theme of “Innovative Cross-Sectoral Linkage for Circular Agriculture.” We advocated promotion of the “3I Action Declaration” (Innovation, Intelligence, and Implementation) and the three countries hosting the forum offered feasible solutions and policies to attain UN-SDGs number 2 (“Zero Hunger”), 12 (“Responsible Consumption and Production”) and 17 (“Revitalize Global Partnerships”). The forum was open to guests from countries all over the Asia-Pacific region who came to Taiwan for the “2019 Asia Agri-Tech Exhibition and Forum,” and further promoted Taiwan’s partnership relations in regional agricultural cooperation and development.

The COA states that future agricultural development will require continual innovation, such as through tight cross-industry, cross-sectoral and even cross-border linkages, precise use of land and water resources, change of agricultural production technology and models to upgrade management efficiency, and increase of value-added for agriproducts. Only in this way can we realize the hopes of a New Agriculture brought by sustainable development. It is hoped that this collaboration between Taiwan, the Netherlands, and Denmark will serve as a call to countries around the world to work together on behalf of a sustainable environment.

The COA adds that the 2019 Asia Agri-Tech Expo and Forum was mainly organized by UBM Taiwan with assistance from the COA. With “innovative technology, eco-friendliness, and sustainable development” as the main themes, the Expo served mainly as an international transaction platform promoting the upgrading of agricultural technology and innovative products. In order to demonstrate the international potential of Taiwan’s successes in agricultural technology, the COA brought together relevant agribusinesses to set up a “Taiwan Technology Pavilion” and a “Seed Pavilion,” in hopes of encouraging foreign buyers to come to Taiwan to create business opportunities. The Expo was held from October 31 through November 2 of 2019. The “Aquaculture Taiwan” and “Livestock Taiwan” expos were held jointly with the Agri-Tech expo.
