Taiwan and Lithuania convene high-level agricultural dialogue meeting in Taipei to strengthen agricultural cooperation between the two countries as well as public-private partnerships

Today (June 23, 2022), Council of Agriculture (COA) Deputy Minister Chen Junne-jih and Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Agriculture Egidijus Giedraitis held a high-level agricultural dialogue meeting. The two sides agreed to proceed on the basis of the consensus reached during the videoconference of ministers of agriculture held on 3 March 2022 and establish a platform for dialogue on agricultural cooperation in order to regularly engage in exchanges on matters that include agricultural policy and development, agricultural technology, market access, agricultural investment, promotion of cooperation between the public and private sectors, and matchmaking between agribusinesses. The goals are to deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation and interactions and to enhance trade in agricultural and food products.

Council of Agriculture Deputy Minister Chen Junne-jih today (June 23) met with Lithuanian Vice Minister of Agriculture Egidijus Giedraitis to hold a high-level dialogue on agricultural cooperation.

Lithuanian Vice Minister of Agriculture Egidijus Giedraitis led a delegation including officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural and food products businesses, and media on this visit to Taiwan. He participated in the opening ceremony for Lithuania’s national pavilion at the Food Taipei 2022 trade show, attended the show’s explanatory seminar on business opportunities in Lithuania, and visited relevant government ministries and agencies of Taiwan. Vice Minister Giedraitis held a special meeting today with COA Deputy Minister Chen Junne-jih, at which the two parties not only exchanged views on important agricultural policies such as those related to food security and climate change, they also agreed to strengthen collaboration and promote the signing of a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation. They further agreed to pro-actively do matchmaking between agricultural and food product businesses in the two countries in order to enhance bilateral agricultural trade and commercial opportunities.

Lithuanian Vice Minister of Agriculture Egidijus Giedraitis visited the Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station to learn about the operation of vegetable transplantation machinery and other technology and during the visit he personally operated labor-saving machinery.

The COA points out that in the afternoon the Lithuanian delegation also visited the COA’s Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station to get a better understanding of Taiwan’s achievements in agricultural technology R&D such as automated control of greenhouses and labor-saving machinery. In the future the two sides, acting within the framework of the platform for dialogue on agricultural cooperation, will promote bilateral public-private cooperation and build partnership relations, as well as deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation, investment, and trade.
