1. Implemented measures to cope with the rising international prices of fertilizer and crude oil: 1) Domestic fertilizer prices were reduced and government absorbed 70% of the cost difference. 2) Three working groups covering fertilizer price negotiation, fertilizer distribution monitoring and guidance, and appropriate fertilizer use education were established. 3) Agricultural-use fuels were exempted from the 5% operation tax and the COA subsidized fuel for use in agricultural machinery and electricity covering 50% of both the fuel price increase per liter and increase in electricity costs.

2. Revised the regulations regarding selection of agricultural association chief executive officers.

3. Promulgated the Guidelines on Inspection of Imported Maize for Feeding.

4. Operation procedures were revised for the reduction of trawlers over 100 tons and long-liners between 20-100 tons for the period from 2007 to 2009.

5. Revised the parts of the Regulations for the Issuing of Building Permit and Fishery License to Fishing Vessels.

6. Announced the implementation of glutinous rice sales.

7. Promoted the Summer 2008 refrigerated vegetable warehouse plan.

8. Special projects were launched to promote domestic onion sales at farmers’ association supermarkets across Taiwan.

9. Yilan County’s Yuanshan Township and Tainan County’s Chigu Township agricultural recreation areas were vetted and approved.

10. Inventoried, packaged, and added value to agricultural research achievements so that industry can take advantage of these new technologies.

11. Opened online enrollment for the 2008 Wandervögel Project activities.

12. Held the International Conference on Soil and Water Conservation, Rural Village Development, and Information Technology.

13. Assisted the Puli Farmer’s Association in sending its famous Love Rose Wine to compete in the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2008 where it was awarded a silver medal.

14. The Soil and Water Conservation Bureau’s six engineering offices are now located in Taipei, Taichung, Nantou, Tainan, Taitung, and Hualien.
