1. Typhoon Jangmi cause and estimated NT$2.14158 billion in damage to crops and private structures. The COA announced cash payment subsidies for Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan Counties. In addition, low-interest loans were made available in Yilan, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Pintung counties and the city of Chiayi.

2. Created a working group to deal immediately with the melamine contamination issue. The COA used the full capacity of its testing facilities to get timely results and enhanced random testing. These measures ensured that livestock farmers’ and consumers’ fears could be quickly assuaged and reduce industry losses.

3. Jointly signed the Regulations Governing Forestation Incentives and Guidance with the Council of Indigenous Peoples, Executive Yuan.

4. Revised Animal Transportation and Management Regulations and promulgated the Regulations for Humane Slaughtering of Livestock and Poultry.

5. Revised Article 5, Section 11 of the Regulations Governing the Transportation of Live Farmed Fish on Fishing Vessels.

6. Revised portions of the Guidelines and Regulations Governing Ship Owners Hiring Foreign Workers Abroad.

7. Announced the 2008 second paddy rice growing season purchase quantity, price, and deadline.

8. Purchased a total of 3,189 metric tons of garlic.

9. Sent representatives to the third Taiwanese-Philippine Agricultural and Fishery Industry Cooperation Meeting.
