October

1. Due to the extensive damage Typhoon Jangmi wreaked on the agricultural industry, subsidies were provided for crop and structure damage in eight counties.

2. Urea fertilizer prices were reduced by NT$50 per bag and the government continued to provide a NT$430 per bag subsidy.

3. Chose 10 areas to serve as experiment spots for the small landlord, big tenant farmer program and held meetings and discussions about the program.

4. Worked to increase traveler awareness of laws concerning the importation of animals, plants and their products into Taiwan. Such goods must be declared and be subjected to inspection. Failure to declare will result in a fine of at least NT$3,000.

5. Held a competition to choose the 10 tastiest rice varieties grown in Taiwan.

6. Held the second Golden Sprout Award ceremony.

7. Held the first “Made in Taiwan” Taiwan excellent agro-product promotion and sales exhibition.

8. Held the 2008 Pork Chop Festival to celebrate domestic pork and cooperated with 1,300 pork merchants at traditional markets across Taiwan to promote pork products. 

9. Held an APEC Agricultural Technical Cooperation Working Group Symposium on Improving and Promoting Risk Management of Agricultural Genetic Resources.

10. Held a travelling film festival focusing on agriculture in our everyday lives.
