Trends in the Domestic Agricultural Situation

  Agricultural production: In 2015 the total value of agricultural production in Taiwan was, by preliminary estimates, NT$518.7 billion, a decline of 0.43% compared to 2014. Farming, forestry, fisheries, and animal husbandry accounted for, respectively, 49.87%, 0.05%, 18.47%, and 31.62% of the total value of agricultural production. The agricultural production index was, by preliminary estimates, 95.17 (with 2011 as the base year of 100). This was a decline of 3.27% as compared to 2014, caused mainly by climate and weather factors. Farming, fisheries, and animal husbandry production indices fell, respectively, by 2.31%, 6.71%, and 0.58%.

  Prices of agro-products: In 2015, the wholesale price index for all agro-products (including farming, forestry, fisheries, and animal husbandry products) fell by 1.64% compared to 2014. Breaking the total down, the price index for farming products fell by 1.02%, forestry products by 1.27%, fisheries products by 1.42%, and livestock products by 3.03%.

  Agricultural trade: In 2015 imports of agro-products had a total value of US$14.463 billion, a decline of 7.29% as compared to 2014. Main imports included grains and processed grain products, oilseeds and oilseed powder, and lumber and processed lumber products, as well as soybeans, corn, wheat, and powdered milk. Exports of agro-products were US$4.876 billion, a decline of 7.46% as compared to 2014. Major export items included Phalaenopsis orchids, edamame, fish and processed fish products, and manufactured goods that use leather or down.
