Promoting the New Southbound Policy

During her inaugural address on May 20, 2016, President Tsai Ing-wen declared that she would promote the “New Southbound Policy” in order to elevate the scope and diversity of Taiwan’s external economy and to reconstruct the connection between Taiwan and Asia. Then, on August 16, 2016, a meeting on international economic and trade strategy formally adopted guidelines for “New Southbound Policy.” The Council of Agriculture is coordinating with the New Southbound Policy, and has formed a task force for agricultural aspects of the New Southbound Policy, promoted the “Regional Agricultural Development” flagship project, and drawn up 11 potential agricultural items to facilitate trade by using mutual benefical model with the New Southbound Policy partner countries.
