The Council of Agriculture (COA) says that the Taiwan-bred chicken is juicy, tasty and aromatic. The Council has worked with hypermarkets and fast food chains so that the people of Taiwan could easily buy this delicious product. They can be bought at the following hypermarkets; Matsui, Geant, Welcome, Da-Tong, Da-Le, Carrefour and Shin Nung. They are also available at the following fast food chains: KFC, Ding Gua Gua, Mose, Burger King, and Maiweidon. Meal box chain stores also sell them; Wu Tao Chih Shang, Chih Shang meal-box, Gaee and Family Rice. The Council hopes that more people enjoy delicious dishes prepared with Taiwan-bred chicken and let the Council know of such dishes. The COA will then compile the recipes of those dishes and publish them so that the “authentic Taiwanese flavor” could form part of people’s everyday diet.

The Council says that since Taiwan’s accession to WTO in 2001, the amount of chickens imported was 19,751 tons. This rose to 32,501 tons, in 2002 and to 45,601 tons by the end of 2003. In 2005, the government abolished the quota system on chicken imports. This made the amount of chicken imports increase by 64% to 74,642 tons. On April 7th 2006, the accumulated amount of imported chickens reached 45,684 tons, of which 97% were chicken legs (which equals to 80million chickens based on the estimate). For every five drumsticks consumed, one is imported. Despite strong competition from massive amounts of imported chicken drumsticks from the U.S., Taiwan-bred chickens still dominate 80% of the market. This could be attributed to the fact that the meat of Taiwan golden chicken is solid, tastes juicy and good flavor since it need not go through freezing and de-freezing processes. As a result, Taiwan-bred chickens are the favorite of many well-known restaurants and chefs of international hotels in Taiwan.

The Council stresses that Taiwan-bred chicken contains lower fat, of mostly unsaturated fatty acid. It has a higher amount of protein and lower cholesterol, making it a favorable material for food preparations. Besides enhancing the flavor of any dish with its freshness and taste, Taiwan golden chicken also helps improve people’s health.

“Taiwan golden chicken is Taiwan-bred chicken” The Council says that this is not a sales pitch, but the best statement for Taiwan’s high-quality chicken. Taiwan-bred chicken or white-meat chicken is as good as gold. So the Council hopes that more consumers include it in their shopping list. The Council also calls on the general public to inform the Council should they discover the existence of a “golden chicken route” during their weekend trips around Taiwan. After confirming that those restaurants use Taiwan-bred quality chicken in their dishes, the Council will include them in a booklet called “raw material Taiwan golden chicken routes guide book”.
