COA to Continue Promoting Agricultural Development with Support from 90% of People

According to a survey on satisfaction with government policies published by the Council of Agriculture (COA), 90% of the general public and farmers are satisfied with agricultural policies being implemented by the Council, which said with such a strong support it will be more confident in promoting the development policies of Taiwan agriculture in the future.

COA Is More Confident in Promoting Agricultural Development with Strong Support

More than 90% of the general public and close to 90% of farmers expressed their support for policies related to quality agriculture being promoted by the COA, demonstrating that current agricultural policies are widely accepted by the people. The Council said it will continue implementing actively related policies to enhance the development capacity and competitiveness of Taiwan agriculture according to the current principles of assisting farmers and caring the people of COA.

People’s Understanding of Policies Varies Due to Relevance

More than half of the people knew policies related to healthful agriculture being promoted by the COA. “CAS (Certified Agricultural Standards) quality agricultural products” are known to 66.6% of people, the highest percentage of cognition. And more than 90% of the people knew the policy of LOHAS agriculture because of the high relevance between policies on leisure agriculture and exquisite agricultural products and people’s daily life.

More than 67% of farmers understood GAP (Good Agricultural Practice) safe vegetables and fruits, CAS quality agricultural products and organic agricultural products, while more than 50% knew policies related to LOHAS agriculture.

More than 50% of People Satisfied with Results of Implementing Agricultural Policies

More than 50% of people said they are satisfied with all policies related to healthful agriculture, with 67.6% being satisfied with CAS quality agricultural products while 59% and 73% expressed satisfaction with leisure agriculture and the policy on exquisite agricultural products, respectively.

More than 50% of farmers are satisfied with policies related to healthful agriculture and LOHAS agriculture, while more than 60% said they are satisfied with policies on CAS and exquisite agricultural products.

The COA-commissioned public opinion poll is conducted by Trendgo Research mainly on the “healthful agriculture” and “LOHAS agriculture” policies included in the Quality Agricultural Development Program. Trendgo Research personnel successfully interviewed by phone 1,206 adults and 1,248 farmers aged 20 and above on October 11 and 22, 2010, respectively. One can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error ranged between -2.8 and +2.8 percentage points.
